Dubai
Several stays for study and research in the years 2000,2002 and 2003 were directed at the following themes:
From
the economical science standpoint the most ambitious project seems to
be Dubai Internet City which was erected in 2000. His Highness, the
Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum personally
created and initiated the futuristic concept of this project.
This is a worldwide first time E-Commerce Center which offers interested companies tax free and 100% foreign ownership together with an ultra modern research and development network. All market leaders in the IT industry have formed companies at this center and at this time more than 200 licenses have been granted to international companies. Connected with this Dubai Internet City and its technology park is the first “Internet University” and located in its direct neighborhood the Campus of the American University of Dubai (AUD). Founded in 1995, the AUD is a young private university with approx. 1200 students from 50 different countries. It is part of several American and British universities and operates along the lines of American university standards, where students are given the possibility to study in one to three different countries. My special thanks at this point goes to the American University of Dubai for the warm reception and the overwhelming amount of information given to me.
